Landscape Planning Permission Granted
dRMM have been granted Planning Permission by Southwark Council to redesign the landscape around Symington House (Elephant and Castle), an elegant example of a 1960’s slab block.
The scheme for Family Mosaic, forms part of the wider landscaping of the Harper Square development, that is currently under construction and that will provide 72 new dwellings. The aim is to create a coherent landscape strategy for both sites through the implementation of similar elements and materials. The design has been developed in close collaboration with the residents of Symington House, the Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, the JMB Leathermarket and the Ward Councillors. Through this detailed consultation process, wide support was gained for the final proposal.
The design proposals respond to the residents’ aspirations and include the visual enhancement of the whole area by providing a variety of new trees, wild grasses and flowers; provision of amenity space for Symington House residents of different age groups with outdoor fitness equipment, a bicycle track and grass mounts for recreation and play; improvement of security aspects, the entrance sequence to the building and the refuse storage.
