dRMM to redevelop Hastings' fire-damaged pier.
dRMM has won a RIBA Competition to redevelop Hastings’ fire-damaged pier.
The competition was held on behalf of Hastings Borough Council, and the Hastings Pier & White Rock Trust. The firm impressed the Trust with its “flexibility and lateral thinking”.
The first priority is to secure approvals for the clearance of above-deck fire debris, as well as for emergency repairs to the below-deck structure. dRMM will then work closely with both the Trust and the local community to redefine the pier’s potential for a sustainable future. The first consultation took place on 12 March, as part of Party on the Pier. Local residents were asked to share opinions, memories and ideas about the Pier’s future. Comments were recorded and are all now being compiled. Michael Spooner, Associate Director of dRMM, said of the exercise, “our focus for the consultation is threefold. Remembering the past, communicating the present and contributing to the future. We are keen to draw on the local community and visitors to the town to understand concerns and aspirations for the project”.
